What Is the Laboratory Vertical Autoclave Used For?
Steam under pressure reaches a temperature above the normal boiling point of water, and moist heat at that temperature kills bacteria, including their spores, far more quickly than dry heat. Culture media, glassware, instruments and waste are loaded into the stainless steel basket, water is added to the chamber, the lid is closed with the radial locking, and the pressure and time are set. The pressure control switch holds the chosen pressure, the timer ends the cycle, and the automatic water cut-off with alarm stops the heating if the water runs low. The paddle lifting device lifts the basket out once the pressure has fallen.
