Digital Torsion Testing Machine
Product Code : EL-STLE-10560
Digital Torsion Testing Machine (code EL-STLE-10560) is a motor-driven machine for torsion and twist testing of metal rods and flats, with torque read by a torque cell and the twist angle by a rotary encoder. A geared motor applies torque to the specimen through a gear box, both readings appear on the LCD display of the Data Acquisition System, and torque accuracy is ±1% from 4% to 100% of machine capacity.

What Is the Digital Torsion Testing Machine Used For?
A torsion test twists a specimen about its own axis and records the torque needed against the angle of twist, showing how the metal behaves in shear; for round bars these readings are used to work out shear stress and the modulus of rigidity. The operator fixes the rod or flat in the machine and the geared motor turns it while the torque cell and rotary encoder feed their signals to the Data Acquisition System. Torque and angle are read from the LCD as the test proceeds, and the DAS panel can be linked to a PC to keep the readings.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of torsion testing machines required.
- Specimens — the type and size of the metal rods or flats to be tested.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Digital Torsion Testing Machine measure?
It measures the torque acting on the specimen, using a torque cell, and the angle through which the specimen twists, using a rotary encoder.
How is torque applied to the specimen?
A geared motor applies the torque through a gear box, while the torque cell measures it and the rotary encoder follows the angle of twist.
How close is the torque reading?
Torque is measured within ±1% over the span from 4% to 100% of machine capacity, in a single range that keeps high resolution throughout.
Where are the readings displayed, and can they go to a computer?
Torque and angle of twist are shown on the LCD display of the Data Acquisition System, and the DAS panel has a facility for connection to a PC.
What can be learned from a torsion test?
Plotting torque against angle of twist shows how a metal behaves in shear. For round bars the readings are used to calculate shear stress and the modulus of rigidity of the material.
