What Is the Spectro Sample Polisher Machine Used For?

Spectrometric analysis of metals needs a flat, freshly ground sample face free of oxide, oil and other contamination, because the spark or arc samples only a thin surface layer. The operator presses the sample against the turning alundum disc until a clean, even surface is obtained, while the suction motor draws the grinding dust through the pipeline at the back of the disc housing to the dust-collecting unit. The guard covering the disc plate by 180 degrees keeps the operator clear of the wheel, and the motor starter on the stand switches the machine on and off.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of polishing machines required.
  • Abrasive disc — the disc diameter required, between 300 and 350 mm.

Frequently Asked Questions

What abrasive disc does it use?
It uses an alundum abrasive disc of 300 to 350 mm diameter, held by an air gripping arrangement with a locking system that keeps it in position.

What motors are fitted?
The disc motor is 2 hp or better at about 1440 rpm, 3 phase, 50 Hz, 415 V AC, and the suction motor is 1 hp minimum at 2800 rpm, 415 V AC, 50 Hz.

How is grinding dust removed?
A pipeline at the back of the disc housing is connected to the dust-collecting unit, and the air suction runs at approx. 1500 rpm.

What protects the operator from the disc?
The machine is made to suit the disc housing and covers the disc plate by 180 degrees for safety, and the motor starter is mounted on the machine stand.

How is the machine finished against corrosion?
It is made of rust-resistant steel, painted with anti-fungal, rust-proof paint and powder coated on the outer body; the disc plate is steel and the disc housing cast iron.
