What Is the Spring Testing Machine Used For?
The stiffness of a spring, or spring rate, is the load needed to deflect it by a unit distance, and springs for machines, vehicles and instruments are checked by loading them and measuring how far they compress or extend. A compression spring is placed between the pair of platens and pressed, while a tension spring is held in its fixture and pulled; at each load the deflection is noted, and the load-deflection relation gives the rate and shows whether the spring meets its design values. The machine handles spring loads up to 2000 kgf.
