Fluid Properties and Hydrostatics Bench

Fluid Properties and Hydrostatics Bench

Product Code : EL-FMLE-10660

Fluid Properties and Hydrostatics Bench (code EL-FMLE-10660) is a trolley-mounted laboratory bench for experiments on the hydrostatics and properties of liquids and gases, from surface tension and capillarity to Pascal's law, centre of pressure, buoyancy and density. A sealed water circuit with a 0.22 kW submersible pump (95 Ltr/min, 12.5 m head) and supply tank removes the need for a mains water connection, and the cabinet holds instruments including an aneroid barometer, U-tube manometers, hydrometers, falling sphere viscometer tubes and an Archimedes module.

What Is the Fluid Properties and Hydrostatics Bench Used For?

Hydrostatics deals with fluids at rest, where pressure depends only on depth and density, and the same bench covers the fluid properties that matter in later flow work, such as density, viscosity and surface tension. Students use the panel instruments and the cabinet apparatus in turn: hydrometers and the pycnometer for density, the falling sphere tubes, balls and chronometer for viscosity, the capillary tubes and parallel plates for capillary rise, the manometers and barometer for pressure, and the lever balance with the Archimedes module for buoyancy. The centre of pressure device also gives the force acting on a weir.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the number of benches required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which experiments can be run on the bench?
Experiments cover pressure measuring methods, surface tension, capillary effects, Pascal's law, centre of pressure, static and dynamic pressure, the Boyle-Marriott law, buoyancy of various bodies and the density of liquids.

Does the bench need a mains water connection?
No. A sealed water circuit with a pump and supply tank lets experiments run independent of a mains water connection, so the bench can be used in seminar rooms and lecture theatres.

What is the pump rating?
The submersible pump is rated at 0.22 kW and gives a volumetric flow rate of 95 Ltr/min at a head of 12.5 m.

Which instruments are supplied for density work?
Three hydrometers with 0.002 SG resolution cover 0.8 to 1, 1 to 1.2 and 1.2 to 1.4 SG and are used in two 450 × 50 mm jars, along with a 50 ml pycnometer.

What is included for viscosity and capillarity tests?
Two 300 × 40 mm falling sphere viscometer tubes with stainless steel balls of 3.175, 2.381 and 1.588 mm, a digital chronometer, a capillary tubes module from 5 mm to 1.2 mm and a parallel plates module.

How are buoyancy experiments carried out?
A variable scale lever balance reading up to 310 gr is used with the Archimedes module, which consists of a displacement vessel, a bucket and a cylinder.
