What Is the 5 Gas Analyser Used For?

Exhaust gas readings show how completely an engine is burning its fuel: high HC points towards misfire or unburnt fuel, high CO towards a rich mixture, and the balance of CO2 and O2 shows combustion efficiency and air leaks, while NOx reflects high combustion temperatures. The technician places the probe in the exhaust and connects the analyser to a PC through the serial port, then watches the five gas readings as numbers or graphs while the engine runs. The hold button lets the last 2.5 minutes be examined with cursors, and data can be saved as text or JPEG, or monitored remotely over a LAN or the internet.

What to Specify When Ordering

Frequently Asked Questions

Which gases does the analyser measure?
It takes five gas measurements, HC, CO, CO2, O2 and NOx, and reports concentration in parts per million or percentages, with grams per mile or kilometre also supported.

What engine problems can it help locate?
Its readings help locate fuel control problems, misfires, leaking head gaskets, no starts, hard starts and EVAP system leaks, with probe-to-screen updates as fast as 5 seconds.

How does it connect to a computer?
The analyser interfaces to a PC through a serial port; the recommended PC has an XGA screen, a 1 GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 500 MB free disk space and an RS-232 port or USB/RS-232 adaptor.

Which operating systems are supported?
Windows XP through Windows 8.1 are supported, including Windows 8 and 8.1 tablets, while Windows RT tablets cannot run the software.

How can test data be saved or shared?
Data can be saved as a text file for later retrieval or as a JPEG image for e-mailing or documentation, and the web enabled software allows remote monitoring over a LAN or the internet.

What is included in the package?
It comes as a ready-to-run test solution with all the necessary cables, probes, connectors and hoses, and it has its own power supply.
