Cleveland Flash Point Apparatus
Product Code : EL-FTLE-10892
Cleveland Flash Point Apparatus (code EL-FTLE-10892) is a semi-automatic open cup tester used to determine the flash and fire points of petroleum products by the Cleveland open cup method, for products with flash points above 79 °C and below 400 °C except fuel oils. Its cup is electrically heated by a quartz tube furnace adjustable from 0 to 600 W, an electrically driven sweep arm applies the gas test flame, and the stainless steel unit runs on 220 V ±10%, 50 Hz.

What Is the Cleveland Flash Point Apparatus Used For?
In the Cleveland open cup test the sample is heated in an open cup at a set rate while a small test flame is passed across its surface at intervals. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which the vapour flashes, and the fire point the higher temperature at which it goes on burning, which shows how safely heavier oils can be heated and handled. The operator fills the cup, sets the furnace heating power, connects the gas for the test flame and presses the button to drive the sweep arm, reading the thermometer at each point. The standards listed are GB/T3536-2008, AASHTO T48, ASTM D92, BS 2000 Parts 36 & 403 (obs), EN ISO 2592, FTM 791 1103.7, IP 36, JIS K2265 and NF T60-118.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of testers required.
- Gas supply — mains gas, coal or civil gas, or a portable gas tank for the test flame.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which products can be tested?
It suits all petroleum products with flash points above 79 °C and below 400 °C, except fuel oils, and determines both flash and fire points by the Cleveland open cup method.
How is the cup heated?
The cup is electrically heated by a quartz tube furnace with no naked fire, and the heating power is continuously adjustable from 0 W to 600 W to set the temperature rise rate.
How is the test flame applied?
A button-operated, electrically driven sweep arm carries the test flame across the cup; the flame burns mains, coal or civil gas, or gas from a portable tank, at a diameter of 3.2 mm to 4.8 mm.
What thermometer is used?
The thermometer covers -6 to 400 °C, a span that takes in both the flash point and the fire point; the thermometer standard listed for it is ASTM 11C.
What power and operating conditions does it need?
It runs on AC 220 V ±10% at 50 Hz with an overall power consumption of no more than 650 W, in ambient temperatures of -10 to 50 °C and relative humidity up to 85%.
Which standards are listed for it?
The standards listed are GB/T3536-2008, AASHTO T48, ASTM D92, BS 2000 Parts 36 & 403 (obs), EN ISO 2592, FTM 791 1103.7, IP 36, JIS K2265 and NF T60-118.
