Freezing Point Apparatus
Product Code : EL-FTLE-10904
Freezing Point Apparatus (code EL-FTLE-10904) is a manual electric apparatus used to determine the freezing point of aqueous engine coolant solutions by cooling a sample with continuous agitation until a plateau appears in its time-temperature curve. It has a capped double tube of 30 × 240 mm in a 75 × 280 mm Dewar jar, a geared motor stirring at 80 rpm with a wire stirrer and a digital thermometer, all on a plate structure painted with anti-acid epoxidic products, for 120 or 230 V, 50/60 Hz.

What Is the Freezing Point Apparatus Used For?
The freezing point of a coolant shows the lowest temperature an engine cooling system can meet before ice crystals start to form, so it is used to check that a coolant mix gives enough protection against frost. The sample is placed in the capped double tube inside the Dewar jar and cooled while the geared motor drives the wire stirrer continuously at 80 rpm. The operator reads the digital thermometer at intervals and plots temperature against time; when freezing begins the curve levels off into a plateau, and the temperature of that plateau is reported as the freezing point. The standard listed for it is ASTM D1177.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of apparatus required.
- Power supply — the 120 V or the 230 V, 50/60 Hz version.
- Accessories — whether the 114C thermometer and the Type A glass nitrogen collar are needed.
- Spare parts — any spare double tubes, wire stirrers, Dewar jars, corks or Type B moisture proof collars.
Frequently Asked Questions
What samples is the apparatus used for?
It determines the freezing point of aqueous engine coolant solutions, cooling the sample with continuous agitation until a plateau is seen in the time-temperature curve.
What sizes are the tube and Dewar jar?
The capped double tube is given as diameter 30 × 240 mm, and it sits in a Dewar jar given as diameter 75 × 280 mm.
How is the sample stirred?
A geared motor drives a wire stirrer at 80 rpm, keeping the sample under continuous agitation while it cools and the digital thermometer is read.
Which voltage versions are available?
The apparatus is supplied for 120 V or 230 V at 50/60 Hz, and the buyer specifies which of the two is needed.
Which accessories and spare parts can be ordered?
Accessories are a 114C (IP 14C) thermometer and a Type A glass nitrogen collar; spares include double tubes, wire stirrers, Dewar jars, a cork series and a Type B modified moisture proof glass collar.
Which standard is listed?
The standard listed for it is ASTM D1177, and the apparatus is mounted on a plate structure painted with anti-acid epoxidic products.
