Flash and Fire Point Apparatus
Product Code : EL-FTLE-10890
Flash and Fire Point Apparatus (code EL-FTLE-10890) is a closed cup tester used to determine the flash points of a wide range of products, including fuel oils and lubricating oils, with two optional stirring speeds for the sample. A brass test cup sits under a sliding cover with pilot flame, test flame reference bead, built-in stirrer and thermometer ferrule, heated either by a 1000 W nickel-chromium electric heater with stepless control or by a gas burner, on a cast iron base.

What Is the Flash and Fire Point Apparatus Used For?
In a closed cup flash point test the sample is heated at a controlled rate in a covered cup while being stirred, and at intervals a small flame is dipped into the vapour space; the lowest temperature at which the vapour flashes is the flash point. A low reading on a fuel or lubricating oil can reveal contamination by volatile, flammable material. The operator fills the brass cup, sets the heating rate, runs the stirrer at the speed the procedure calls for and turns the cover knob to open the shutter and apply the test flame. The standards listed are ASTM D93, AASHTO T73-811, IP 34, ISO 2719, DIN 51758, FTM 791-1102 and NF M 07-019.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of testers required.
- Heating — the electrically heated model with 1000 W heater, or the gas heated model with a natural gas, artificial gas or liquid propane burner.
- Stirrer motor — whether the 115/230 V slow speed stirrer motor accessory is wanted.
- Thermometers and spares — the thermometer ranges and any extra brass or nickel plated test cups or cover assembly needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What method does the apparatus use?
It determines flash points by the closed cup method, with a cover that fits over the brass test cup and two optional stirring speeds for the sample.
Is it available with gas or electric heating?
Both versions are made: the electric model has a 1000 W nickel-chromium heater with stepless variable control in a vented stainless steel housing, and the gas model has a built-in nickel-plated brass natural gas burner, with artificial gas or liquid propane burners also offered.
How is the test flame applied?
A cover mechanism slides the shutter open and applies the test flame at the turn of a knob; the cover also carries a pilot flame and a test flame reference bead.
At what speeds does the stirrer motor run?
The accessory slow speed gear motor, for 115/230 V 50/60 Hz, turns the stirrer at 105 rpm for Procedure A and 250 rpm for Procedure B, and it installs in the base with its bracket and rod.
Which thermometers can be supplied?
Thermometers with ranges of 20 to 230 °F, -5 to +110 °C, 200 to 700 °F and 90 to 370 °C are offered as accessories.
Which standards are listed?
The standards listed are ASTM D93, AASHTO T73-811, IP 34, ISO 2719, DIN 51758, FTM 791-1102 and NF M 07-019.
