What Is the Orsat Gas Analysis Apparatus Used For?
Orsat analysis gives the composition of a gas sample by volume, and its classic use is checking flue gas from boilers and furnaces, where the components absorbed in turn are carbon dioxide, oxygen and carbon monoxide. The operator draws a measured volume into the water jacketed burette with the levelling bottle, then pushes it into each absorption pipette in turn and back again; the reagent takes up one component, and the drop in volume read on the burette gives its percentage. The 3 compartment gas expansion bag is connected to the pipettes through its valves.
