Reid Vapour Pressure Apparatus
Product Code : EL-FTLE-10901
Reid Vapour Pressure Apparatus (code EL-FTLE-10901) is a temperature-controlled bath used to measure the vapour pressure of automobile and aviation gasoline, petroleum products and crude oils. The bath controls temperature to ±0.2 °F (±0.1 °C), holds up to four vapour pressure cylinders at the proper immersion depth and shows actual and set-point temperatures on dual LED displays; gauges with a 4-1/2 in dial and one- or two-opening stainless steel cylinders are sold separately.

What Is the Reid Vapour Pressure Apparatus Used For?
Vapour pressure shows how readily a fuel evaporates, and it governs the handling and performance of liquid petroleum and LPG products; for automotive gasoline it is also subject to governmental regulation for pollution control. In the test, a chilled sample is sealed into the cylinder with its air chamber and gauge, and the assembly is immersed in the bath at the proper depth and held at the set temperature until the gauge reading settles, which gives the vapour pressure. The one-opening cylinder is used below 26 psi, and the two-opening cylinder with its valves for LPG and other products above 26 psi. The standards listed are ASTM D323 and D1267.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of RVP baths required.
- Gauges — the number of RVP gauges needed, as they are sold separately.
- Cylinders — one-opening cylinders for products below 26 psi or two-opening cylinders for LPG and products above 26 psi, sold separately.
- LPG accessory — the bleeder valve assembly, if LPG is to be tested with the two-opening cylinder.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which products can be tested?
The apparatus measures the vapour pressure of automobile and aviation gasoline, petroleum products and crude oils, and with the two-opening cylinder it also covers LPG above 26 psi.
How closely is the bath temperature controlled?
The RVP bath controls temperature to ±0.2 °F (±0.1 °C) and shows both actual and set-point values on dual LED displays in °F or °C.
How many cylinders does the bath hold?
It holds up to four pressure cylinders, immersed at the proper depth, in a double-wall, fibreglass insulated stainless steel tank.
Are gauges and cylinders included?
Both are sold separately. The gauges have a 4-1/2 in (11.4 cm) dial, an accuracy of ±0.5% of scale range, an aluminium case with brass handle and a 1/4 in NPT(M) connection.
Which cylinder should be used for LPG?
LPG and other products above 26 psi need the two-opening cylinder, which has a straight-through ball valve and a needle valve; the bleeder valve assembly is ordered for LPG testing.
Which standards are listed?
The standards listed are ASTM D323 and D1267, and the vapour pressure of automotive gasoline is subject to governmental regulation for pollution control.
