Junkers Gas Calorimeter
Product Code : EL-FTLE-10895
Junkers Gas Calorimeter (code EL-FTLE-10895) is an apparatus that determines the calorific value of a gas by burning a known volume of it and passing the heat to a steadily flowing, measured volume of water whose rise in temperature is found. It consists of a powder coated stainless steel calorimeter with a two-nozzle burner on a levelling tripod stand, a wet type gas flow meter with a mechanical revolution counter and a factory-adjusted pressure governor, covering 120 BTU (1000 to 26000 kcal/m³).

What Is the Junkers Gas Calorimeter Used For?
The calorific value of a fuel gas is the heat it gives out per unit volume when burnt completely, and it decides how much gas is needed for a given heating duty. Gas from the pressure governor passes through the wet type flow meter, whose counter records the volume burnt, to the burner at the base of the calorimeter. The operator sets a steady water flow through the constant head device and inlet regulator, burns the gas, collects the warmed water from the swinging funnel in the measuring jars and reads the inlet and outlet thermometers. The calorific value then follows from calorific value × gas volume = water volume × temperature rise.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of calorimeter sets required.
- Burner nozzle — the choice between the two burner nozzles offered.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Junkers calorimeter find the calorific value?
A known volume of gas is burnt and its heat is passed to steadily flowing water; the calorific value is found from calorific value × gas volume = water volume × rise in temperature, taking the heat capacity of water as unity.
What range does it cover?
The calorimeter covers a range given as 120 BTU (1000 to 26000 kcal/m³), and it is offered with a choice of two burner nozzles.
How is the volume of gas measured?
A wet type gas flow meter records the number of revolutions on a mechanical counter, which gives the total volume of gas burnt; a factory-adjusted pressure governor steadies the gas pressure before the meter.
What is the heat exchanger made of?
The heat exchanger, through which the water rises along an annular space around the central combustion chamber, is fabricated from heavily tinned copper sheet.
How is a steady water flow kept?
A constant water head device with an overflow sits in the feed water pipe along with the inlet water flow regulator, so water enters the bottom of the heat exchanger at a steady rate.
Which thermometers and accessories are supplied?
Thermometers with 0.1 °C graduation read the inlet and outlet water temperatures, another at the exhaust outlet reads the effluent gas temperature, and tubing, measuring jars and an instruction manual are also provided.
