What Is the Bulk Density of Cement Used For?
Bulk density is the mass of cement that fills a given volume, voids included, and it is needed when cement is batched by volume or when storage bins are sized. The tripod holds the sieve funnel above the 1 litre measure, and cement is passed through the sieve so that it falls freely and fills the measure without being packed down. The heaped surface is struck off level with the straightedge, the filled measure is weighed, and the mass of cement divided by the 1 litre volume gives the bulk density.

Frequently Asked Questions
What items make up the Bulk Density of Cement set?
The set consists of a sieve funnel, a unit weight measure with a capacity of 1 litre, a tripod and a straightedge.
Why is the cement passed through a sieve funnel?
Sieving breaks up lumps and lets the cement fall loosely into the measure, so the result reflects loose cement and not material packed down by pouring or tapping.
How is the bulk density worked out?
After the measure is filled and struck level, it is weighed; the net mass of cement divided by the 1 litre capacity of the measure gives the bulk density.
What are the size and weight of the apparatus?
Overall, the assembled set measures 350 × 350 × 520 mm, and it weighs approximately 3 kg.
Which method and standards are listed?
The method is the one specified by the Construction Materials Testing Methods Commission, and the standards listed are ASTM C191 and ASTM C110.
What details does an export enquiry need?
List the quantity of sets, where they are going (country and port or city), the delivery terms wanted, for example CIF or FOB, how they should be packed, and any tender reference.
