Mud Balance

Mud Balance

Product Code : EL-CTLE-10912

Mud Balance (code EL-CTLE-10912) is a beam balance used on site and in the laboratory to find the density of slurry and liquidized construction mixes, giving the specific gravity of the semi-liquid on the spot. It has a stainless steel beam with a lidded steel cup at one end, an overflow vent on the cup, a cursor that slides along the calibrated beam, a fulcrum on which the beam rests and a counterweight.

What Is the Mud Balance Used For?

Density, often called mud weight, shows how much solid material a slurry carries, and engineers compare it between batches or against the mix design while work proceeds. The operator fills the steel cup with slurry and fits the lid so that the excess escapes through the overflow vent, wipes the outside of the cup and rests the beam on its fulcrum. The cursor is then slid along the calibrated stainless steel beam until the beam balances against the counterweight, and the density or specific gravity is read at the cursor position without waiting for laboratory results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Mud Balance measure?
It measures the density of slurry and liquidized mixes used in construction and gives the specific gravity of the semi-liquid directly, either on site or in the laboratory.

What are the main parts of the balance?
A stainless steel beam carries a steel cup with a lid at one end; the cup has an overflow vent, a cursor slides along the calibrated beam, and the beam rests on a fulcrum with a counterweight.

Why does the cup have an overflow vent?
When the lid is pressed onto the filled cup, excess slurry escapes through the vent, so the cup holds the same volume each time and the reading depends only on density.

How is the reading taken?
With the cup filled and the beam on its fulcrum, the cursor is moved along the calibrated beam until the beam balances, and the value is read where the cursor stops.

Who uses a mud balance?
Site professionals and laboratory technicians use it to check slurry density on the spot, which lets engineers make relative comparisons between mixes during project execution.
