What Is the Water Bath (6 Holes) Used For?
A water bath gives gentle, even heating because the vessels stand in water rather than over a flame or hot plate, so their contents cannot rise above the temperature of the water. Flasks, beakers or tubes are set in the six holes, the regulator is set anywhere from ambient +5 °C up to 100 °C, and the LED display shows when the water has reached temperature. At 100 °C it serves as a boiling water bath for heating and evaporating work. The load indicators show the running status, and the water is emptied through the drain nozzle at the back.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the number of baths required.
- Number of holes — this 6 hole model, or the 4 hole or 12 hole model of the same range.
Frequently Asked Questions
What temperature range does the bath cover?
The bath runs from 5 °C above ambient up to 100 °C, the boiling point of water, with the setting held by a thermostatic regulator and shown on an LED display.
What is the bath made of?
The inner chamber is 304 stainless steel and the exterior is GI sheet with a powder coated finish; both the inner and outer surfaces resist corrosion.
Are other hole configurations made?
Yes. This model has 6 holes, and the same rectangular range is also made with 4 holes and with 12 holes.
How is the water emptied?
A water drain nozzle is fitted at the back of the bath, so the water can be run off for cleaning or before the bath is moved.
What do the load indicators show?
The load indicators show the running status of the bath, so the operator can see at a glance that it is working.
Why use a water bath instead of a hot plate?
In a water bath the vessel is surrounded by water held at the set temperature, so heating is even and the contents cannot overheat beyond the water temperature, which suits heat-sensitive samples.
